Goodbye Mario
Goodbye, Mario!
Dear Friends,
I wish to inform you, with a very sad heart, that Dr. Mario Joao Gomes, our General Secretary, died peacefully after 18 months of suffering from aggressive lymphoma yesterday afternoon, Friday 20th March, in Porto, Portugal at the age of 55. Mario was a very close friend and colleague for 15 years!
We have organized several successful Cadaveric courses in Porto for the ICS and worked very closely together in IUGA and on joint research projects about his favorite subject: Biomechanical studies and Genetic problems of the pelvic floor supportive tissues in the Portuguese Population.
Mario was one of the 5 founding members of MIPS in Palermo in 2013 and had a very strong passion for a Mediterranean Society resulting in the recruitment of almost all Portuguese Urogynaecologists and Female Urologists in MIPS. His brief, but significant service to MIPS will always be remembered.
On the personal side, all of us who knew Mario closely can attest to his integrity, loyalty, kindness and commitment to his friends. Mario will be deeply missed as a very close friend, colleague and an important Executive board member of MIPS. Please remember Mario in your prayers. I also look forward to receiving your suggestions on possible ways to officially recognize and reward Mario's services to MIPS.
God bless his soul!
Diaa Rizk | Chair of the MIPS Executive Board
Mario's memory, as founding member of the MIPS, will be remembered not only in Ljubljana with a commemorative reading in his name but also with a permanent abstract MIPS award.
God bless his Soul
